A police car door slammed shut as a little girl jumped out of the car and took off to the barn in a fast jog. Then there was a honk of a horn and the little girl turned around to see her father standing outside of the car and smiled at him. I'll see you later daddy! I love you! Roxie grinned and blew him a kiss and waved goodbye to him, she was so excitied to get into the barn and he always did this everytime he dropped her off at the stables.Love you too, Have a good day! Then he got back into the police car adn drove away from the stable yard. Roxie turned on her paddock boots and jogged into the main barn where she got the hint of horse's and hay. Roxie giggled as she walked into the barn and was greeted by my nickers and whinnys, but only two nickers stood out from the rest of the horse's.
Roxie walked down the isle two where two ponies stood out amoung the rest of the horses. The little red roan gelding with the white blaze poked his nose through the stall door and nudged her and she rubbed his red and white nose and then walked down to where Merrylegs was at and rubbed the older grey geldings neck. She loved both of her ponies even though Merrylegs wasn't her she still loved the older gelding. She handed him a little carrot treat and watched the grey gelding chew on the treat before walking away. She needed to ride today, but didn't know what pony to ride today. She took a step back and looked at both of the geldings and began to play alittle game in her head and pointed at both of the ponies. Her hand landed on her gelding Scooby.Alright Scooby your the lucky one for now, but don't worry Merrylegs I'll come and get you later and ride you too. I'll be here all day! She grinned and walked toward the red roan and pulled the lead off the stall door and opened it to be greeted by a nose in her chest. She clipped the lead to the leather halter and walked out of the stall to the cross-ties toward the tack room.
Roxie brushed the gelding down and tacked him up and put on some zebra polo wraps on each of his legs before grabbing her helment and taking the rubber reins and heading toward the outdoor arena. Today was a nice sunny day out with a little cloud cover and a slight breeze to keep them cool while riding. Roxie opened the gate in the outdoor arena and shut it behind her. Roxie walked the gelding toward the mounting block and tossed the reins over the geldings neck and pulled her irons out before putting her paddock boot in the iron and sitting into the nice oiled English saddle and ran the reins through her hands before asking the red roan into a walk around the arena.

The ground seemed to slip away from beneath them, each powerful stride taking them further across the field. Emerald blades of grass bowed in their wake, as if in submission to the gelding's course. His tobiano coat was well groomed, the chestnut patches enhanced with a reddy tone as the sun kissed his sides. His rider crouched close to his neck, urging him forward with light squeezes on his barrel. "C'mon boy, just a little more." She whispered. Her words were lost in the wind, but nevertheless he seemed to understand what she was asking for; his strides lengthened, and his neck snaked forward with the effort of the task. They tore along the ridge of the field, his hooves churning up the dust which rose in a cloud behind them. Cass couldn't help herself - she let out a whoop of exultation, adrenaline pumping through her veins. Realising they were nearing the end of the field, she sat up, regaining her usual seat, and gently squeezed the reins. Chicago put up a small fight, tossing his head with annoyance, but eventually slowed to a canter, then a trot, and finally a walk.
Cass lengthened the reins as she walked Chicago toward the gate, allowing him to stretch his neck. She'd tried to work him in the school, but he was so tightly wound that it wasn't worth the trouble, so she'd taken him out for a gallop in an attempt to relax him. It seemed to have worked; he was much more sedate now. Perhaps he might actually be able to do some work in the arena, now. "Good boy," She murmured, stroking his neck affectionately. He let out a small whicker of appreciation, and then suddenly raised his head, looking at a point in the distance. "What is it?" Cass followed his line of sight, and realised that there was a young girl in one of the outdoor arenas. "Looks like we have company, Chic." She smiled, nudging him forwards into a trot.
"Hey, mind if we join you?" Cass called out. Chicago whinnied to the roan pony in the arena. "It's just I think Chicago here might work better with some company." She chuckled. The American Saddlebred was prone to showing off when he had an audience, which was great for a bit of dressage practice.

Little hands ran through the reins as the gelding tossed his head up in protest of being worked today, but Roxie was used to the gelding giving her fits which she just let him toss his head up and act up because sooner or later she would actual make him work. Roxie sighed alittle as the Scooby kept tossing his head up so she nudged him in the side and began posting to his trot. Scooby was a good horse, but liked to make a lot of fights at times. Sometimes she needed help controling the pony as he would jump around and get out of hand, but today he seemed to be okay. Ellie used her hands to bring his head down and held onto him with her calves to get Scooby to bend and get on the bit.
Ellie turned her head toward the girl who had just showed up and smiled toward her. Ellie loved riding with people and it didn't hurt her feelings that the person wanted to ride with her at all.Yah ofcourse you can.She grinned and kept on trotting around the ring doing acouple circles and figure eights to loosen the gelding up and make sure he was warmed up before working in the canter. For only being seven and only riding for a couple years she was pretty good. Many people said she was a natural, but she always spent a lot of time at the stables since her father was gone and she lived with her grandparents for almost four years. Ellie grinned at the thought of her father being home and she was glad about and didn't have to worry about him any longer.
Ellie kissed to the gelding and used her right leg to push under the gelding into a left lead canter. Ellie sat down in the saddle and rocked her hips with the flow of Scooby's canter as he began to toss his head again in protest, but stayed in the left lead and listened to Ellie. Ellie smiled while she kept her hands level with the horse as the reins stayed gripped in her hands.

Cass smiled, nudging her gelding forwards toward the gait. She leaned down over his well-muscled neck and swinging the gate open. Chicago obediently shuffled backwards, allowing the gate to open, and walked inside the arena. "Thanks, sweet." She called over her shoulder, closing the gate as she spoke. Straightening up, Cass clicked her tongue, and the gelding's pointed ears swivelled in order to listen to her. "Trot on, boy," She murmured, gently squeezing his sides as she did so. The great gelding sprung forward into a floaty, elevated trot, clearly showing off to the smaller roan in the arena. "I'm sorry about Chicago here," Cass laughed. "He's a bit of a show off." As if to prove her point, the Saddlebred arched his neck and carried his tail a little higher.
Cass slowed the gelding to a walk and focussed on trying to improve his extension in the gait. As she did so, she watched the pony cantering around the school. "What's your name then, stranger?" She called out, smiling warmly as she did so. Underneath her, Cass felt the gelding begin to lengthen his strides, finally achieving the movement she had been searching for. She patted his neck enthusiastically, and whispered a praise in his ear. Again, she squeezed him forwards into a trot, and in the next corner asked him to canter. He burst forth into the faster gait, rocking forwards in an elegant three beat cadence. Cass absorbed the motion with her seat, moving with him as he strode forward. With a nudge of her outside leg, she pushed him away from the fence and began a circle in the centre of the school, using her inside leg to prevent him from falling in. "Good boy." She whispered as they joined back on to the track.

Ellie poked her chest out which made her back curve then streighten it out at her butt which was in the saddle. Ellie grinned toward the lady with the gelding as they went around the arena. Ellie always wanted a horse like the girl was riding, but since she was only seven her grandparents thought a pony would be good for her and well she loved her little pony. It was just sometimes he could get out of control. Ellie let the gelding canter around on the left lead then came into a circle in the corner of the arena to make her circle.
Ellie and Scooby had been practicing on making circles which was hard when the pony wanted to cut in and make his own circles. Ellie wasn't an Olmypic Rider and would probley never become one, but she still needed to learn everything she could. As they can around back to the rail Scooby balked at the rail and started to move away swiftly.Elllie held onto the reins and wrapped her legs around tight.Stop it Scooby! She said as she got the gelding back to the rail and broke him down into a walk. Blue eyes looked up below her helment at the girl and her horse and smiled.I'm Roxie Hart and this is Scooby-DooShe grinned and stopped the gelding at the rail to fix her saddle for a minutre

Cass could still vividly remember the days in which she rode ponies. They could be stubborn as hell, but boy, they were fun. That was part of the reason she loved Chicago so much; he had all of the mischief of a pony, just in a larger size. The girl was a good rider; she squeezed every last ounce of effort out of the pony, and Cass knew from past experiences how hard that could be.
A smile lingered at Cass's mouth at the sight of Scooby's antics, typical for a pony like him. "It's nice to meet you, Roxie," Cass shouted across the arena. "And you, Scooby." At this, Chicago whinnied loudly, as if he wanted to greet them, too. "I'm Cassidy Winchester, but just call me Cass." She chuckled. Cass asked Chicago for a flying change, just to keep him on his toes, and he obediently responded. "You know, you could have a go on Chicago one day - he might be a little big, but I reckon he'd like you." She offered. As a kid, Cass had always wanted to have a go on one of the bigger horses, but never had the opportunity. Although Chic could be cheeky, she thought that the girl was an experienced enough rider to be able to put him in his place.
Cass and Chicago made a smooth transition from canter to trot, and along the next long side Cass asked for a half pass. She used her outside rein to control his shoulder, and began to push him across the diagonal. Sometimes, the young gelding would get his legs tangled, but the presence of the other horse seemed to have paid off. He gracefully moved across the diagonal, and Cass cooed over his efforts. "Well done, boy!" She praised as they reached the other side of the school. Cass sat for two beats, and then continued rising for a lap of the school before allowing him to slow to a walk.

Elle fixed her sturrip real quick as it began to get a little lose as Scooby stood at the rail chomping at the bit.Ellie rolled her eyes at the gelding and put her foot back into the iron and used her calves to get the gelding to walk forward. Scooby began pulling at the reins and tossing his head which pretty much ripped Ellie's arms out of her socket, but she didn't let him get away with it. She slapped him on the shoulderKnock it off Scooby. Quit acting like this you silly pony. She couldn't help but grin at him even if she was angry at the pony for acting up. Scooby blew out his rollers and kept his ears on Ellie, but his eyes watching the other horse riding in the ring. Scooby let a nicker escape his muzzle as he returned the nicker from the other horse. Ellie giggled a little at his little girly nicker.Nice to meet you too Cass. She grinned at the girl and when she started to talk about her horse Chicago and how maybe Ellie could ride him. It was like her heart skipped a beat.I'd be honored to ride a very beautiful animal like Chicago
Ellie couldn't but to grin at the thought of actual getting to ride a actual size horse. Yah, before she got Scooby she took lessons on a horse, but he was a short horse. Now that she could actual ride herself and control them she wanted to get on a sized horse and maybe just do acouple leads. Ellie judged Scooby into a trot as they worked on circles again and then Ellie asked for the left lead agaisnt the rail which Scooby did well. Ellie brought Scooby into the middle of the arena and broke him down to do a simple lead change to the right. Scooby did a little crowhop when she asked him for the right lead and was on the wroung lead. Ellie brought him back down to a trot and asked again and the gelding did the simple lead change. Ellie smiled and knew that even if he did do alittle buck he still got the right lead. Ellie reached downand rubbed the geldins shoulder and kept on doing simple lead changes in the middle of the arena. Ellie watched Cas and was pretty surprised what the pair could do so when they broke down into a trot Ellie rode up beside Cas and asked Scooby for a trot.Wow, yall are amazing.Elle laughed as Scooby had to extended his trot to keep up with the long legged Saddlebred.

As the little roan sidled up next to Cass, Chicago let out a high pitched whinny, tossing his head as he did so. In an attempt to keep pace with Scooby, Cass squeezed gently on the reins, and Chicago responded by slowing down his trot. At Roxie's words, Cass smiled down at her warmly. "I'm sure he'd be honoured too, wouldn't you boy?" As if in response to her question, Chicago whickered. Laughing at the appropriateness of his outburst, Cass slid her hand along his neck, stroking the chestnut and ivory patches.
Smiling warmly at the girl's praises of her's and Chicago's ability, Cass glanced down at the front of her saddle bashfully. "Aww, thank you sweet. You're amazing, too! I'll have to watch out for you on the showing circuit." Cass winked at Roxie, a grin on her lips as she spoke. In the meantime, Chicago had lowered his neck to Scooby's head-level, and seemed to be studying him intently. He inhaled deeply, and obviously found the pony to be satisfactory companionship as he nuzzled his neck in acceptance.
As they trotted around the school side by side, Cass realised that Chicago was responding a lot better than he had done for weeks, and that there was no time better than now for the little rider to have a go on him. "Hey, Roxie, do you wanna hop up on him now? He seems to be in a really good mood at the moment," She questioned, looking down at the girl's face to monitor her reaction. "I'll hold Scooby for you, if you like." Cass continued, a smile accompanying her speech.
Cass nudged Chicago into a slightly faster trot, and when she was clear of Scooby, asked him to turn in. They slowed to a walk as they neared the centre of the school, and Cass slid her feet out of the stirrups and slipped off his back. Looking at Roxie, Cass judged how long her legs would be, and shortened the stirrups as far as they would go. "Good boy, Chic." She murmured, waiting by the gelding's head to see if Roxie wanted a go.

Scooby started to slow down to a slower trot as he watched the other gelding began to slow down into a slower trot. Roxie looked up at Cass and smiled alittle. Scooby whickered back toward the horse named Chicago. Roxie giggled as Cass talked to the horse and him nickered toward Cass. She wished that Scooby would act like that sometimes, they got along and had a bond, but she wanted more than that. She just wished that Scooby wouldn't act up all the time and try to control the show.
Who knows what will happen. He's so stubborn that he acts up all the time. She sighed thinking about the last time they was at a show and Scooby just pretty much quit on her and not want to moved, but with a lot of coaxing and talking she finaly got the geldint to actual go into the ring and after that he was fine.Ummm...I'm not sure what to say about that. She thought about actual riding a regular size horse, but before she could say anything Cass was up infront of her and off into the middle of the arena. What could it hurt to ride Chicago?
Roxie turned Scooby to the middle of the arena and brought the red roan to a stop beside Cass.I want to so badly, but I would have to ask my father first. She looked at Cass and wanted to ride Chicago, but she didn't want to get introuble for riding Cass Horse. She looked at Chicago and bit her bottom lip.But I guess this one time wouldn't hurt. She grinned at Cas and hopped off of Scooby and brought his reins over his neck so she could give them to Cass.

Roxie's mixture of longing and nervousness took Cass right back to her childhood. The first time she'd been offered a ride on a horse, she'd felt like she was doing something highly illegal and dangerous. "If you don't wanna, it's fine hun - we don't want your Dad getting angry," Cass chuckled, watching Roxie's worried expression. "But even if you just wanna sit on him, that's fine by me." Cass smiled. "I'll even hold the reins if you want."
The heat that bore down on the yard was alien to Cass; even after a few months living here, she still hadn't adapted to the heat. Having lived in England for the majority of her life, she was used to Summers where rain came more often than shine - not the desert-like conditions they were currently experiencing in Virginia. In reality, the heat probably wasn't all that bad, but her British heritage meant that she wasn't very tolerant to the sunny conditions.
As Roxie leapt off of Scooby, Cass took the reins from her and led the pony over to Chicago, standing with their heads together. Chicago let out a throaty whicker and bumped Scooby's muzzle with his own. "Are you gonna fly up there, or do you want a leg up?" Cass joked; standing at roughly 16hh, Chicago was hard for her to mount, even as an adult.

Roxie looked at the tall 16hh horse and was kind of nervous about the large animal standing in front of her. Roxie reached out and rubbed the gelding with her hand and ran her small fingers across his body toward the saddle.Okay. If she could just sit that would be fine with her too, but really she wanted to ride the gelding around the arena just once in a walk or even a trot. Roxie looked toward Cass and smiled.Yes Please. Knowing Roxie she would have found a way to crawl up the 16hh horse without even needing help, but since this wasn't her horse she couldn't do that.
Roxie waited for Cass to give her a leg up onto Chicago before putting her paddock boots in the irons and bending down and fixing them alittle. Roxie always made sure her boots were in the irons perfectly so she could work on her heels and that they wouldn't slip out. Roxie reached her small arms down toward the reins and held them into her gloved hands. This was an amazing feeling to be way up here. Roxie looked around and smiled.Wow it's like a whole new world up here. She giggled alittle and then looked toward the arena. Is it okay if I walk him around? She asked Cass before even taking off.

The expression of wonder and amazement on Roxie's face brought a broad grin to Cass's. It was always special, the transition from ponies to horses; she'd never thought she'd have the privilege to be the reason for this progression in someone, and the feeling it gave her was wonderful. She squinted against the sunlight, looking up at Roxie's face. Despite her size, she looked really good on the tall gelding; Cass was sure she'd make a top-class competitor as she grew up.
At Roxie's words, Cass began to smile again. It's pretty weird, isn't it?" Although she'd never admit to it, she often used the height advantage as an opportunity to be nosy: it was easy to peep over people's fences and into their gardens. "Sure, hun. Do whatever you want; just pretend he's yours." She noticed the endearing way in which Roxie had to stretch a little in order to reach the reins, and chuckled quietly to herself. "He's a sweetheart, but as I said, he just likes to show off sometimes," Cass laughed. "Just let him know you're the one in charge and he'll be a real softy." Chicago needed an experienced rider to put him in his place, and Cass had no doubts that he would respect the young rider. She stood on tiptoes, reaching up to whisper in his ear. "Be a good boy, now." She murmured, ruffling his forelock affectionately. As if in agreement, he whickered throatily and dropped his head to a more relaxed position.

Roxie grinned down at Cass as she felt thankful to the girl who let her ride Chicago. Roxie knew that she was going to be spoiled and want a big horse one day, but knew that it wasn't going to happen anytime soon until she got taller and older. Roxie thought about not being able to ride Scooby or Merrlegs and it kind of broke her heart alittle. She loved both of the ponies very much and couldn't see herself not ever giving them up.
Roxie grinned and ran the reins through her gloved hands and smiled at Cass.Yes it is, Okay. She grinned and shook her head and then nudge the gelding with her heels and waited for the gelding to take off in a walk. Roxie felt the gelding four beat walk and smiled. She loved this feeling she felt like she was on top of the world. Roxie closed her eyes for a minute and then nudged the gelding again wanting a trot.Roxie wasn't scared of anything and was pretty much a daredevil and didn't mind trying out new things.
