Fifi was not cooperating. Chris sighed yet again as his young mare bolted away from him, shying at every shadow, and what seemed like every particle of dust she'd insisted on kicking up. This was Wildfire's first time in the indoor ring at Foxtail, and so far it hadn't been a positive experience. When he'd found her in her stall, Fifi had seemed to have calmed down from the morning's adventure of dragging him out of the trailer with her. She'd been quietly nibbling at the hay in her feeder, and had greeted him with her signature snort. As he'd watched her, Chris once again marveled over how beautiful she was. Roan chestnut sabinos were hard to come by, and he knew he was a lucky man to have such an unusually colored horse. Their long walk from the yearling barn to the indoor arena had been a struggle (being led was not one of Fifi's stronger suits), but Chris remained patient with her, and finally they'd made it. Now that the pair were actually in the roomy indoor, Chris wasn't sure if it'd been a good idea after all. He'd unclipped the lead once the gate was latched behind them, and off Fifi went, bucking and cantering around wildly. Yet even as out of control as she was, she still moved beautifully, he noticed with a touch of pride. He longed for the tranquil disposition of his other mare, Taffy. She was in the main barn, relaxing in her new stall when he'd last seen her. Chris walked into the center of the ring, lunge line in one hand, dressage whip in the other, and waited for Fifi to calm down and notice him. He'd make this a productive training session somehow... Chris was far too focused to notice the person watching him and his feisty yearling, and kept going with the training session unperturbed.

Woah, Mona Lisa, I'd pay to see you frown He senses something, call it desperation Another dollar, another day And if she had the proper words to say, ( She would tell him But she'd have nothing left to sell him --------------- ! ) Jade walked along the pathway from the main barn to the indoor arena, wanting to take in all the new surroundings of Foxtail. She had just settled her horse Zeus into his stall, hoping that he could calm down enough to just take a little nap and get comfortable. She walked through the open doors and stopped in her tracks as she realized that a horse was galloping around, slowly starting to concentrate on the man in the middle. A very handsome man at that, Jade thought quietly to herself.
The mare was an odd color to say the least, a roan chestnut sabino, a color that she had only seen once - on the Internet. Jade stayed as close to the wall as she could, watching the mare with intrigued eyes. She loved the way horses moved, the way they were all so different and unique in their own ways, but yet all managed to have one thing in common. When horses loved, they loved very much and very hard. She watched as he held the whip and she chuckled to herself slightly. One of the most common training mistakes, keeping the whips raised instead of dropping them and making eye contact with the horse. At least, this was how Jade had been taught to really make a connection with a horse, and she based all training techniques off how she was taught.
She thought back to Zeus, her beautiful bay gelding, and the first day that she had put her wild child in the round pen. He had ran around frantically for a good 40 minutes working up a good sweat. Jade had stood in the center of the arena the entire time, keeping eye contact with him as he ran around. He galloped and galloped until finally he started to slow down and keep his eye more on Jade than his surroundings. Eventually, he stopped and turned his body toward her, but he still kept his distance from her, not knowing what to expect of this unfamiliar stranger. This had been enough for Jade, the fact that Zeus had even calmed down enough to keep eye contact with her was enough improvement for her.
Jade tuned back into the scene before her watching the man with his mare. She had no issue offering some friendly advice if he ever noticed that she existed, if not she'd have to say something. Jade waited a couple more minutes then smirked and looked down as she realized the mare still didn't seem to be paying any mind to her owner. "You should try lowering your whips and make eye contact with her, see if that works. That's just how I was always taught." She smiled and decided to throw out a compliment. "By the way, your mare is a beautiful mover, she's flawless with her strides." Jade gave a dashing little smile and waited for his reply, hoping that she hadn't disturbed his peace.

CHRISTOPHER THOMAS ROSSI 26 | Main Barn Instructor | Straight | Single A LOOK FROM YOU AND I WOULD FALL FROM GRACE He reminded her under his breath. He was starting to think he'd have to. Fifi had slowed to a trot, though she still hadn't given him her attention since she'd broken the last connection. But, Chris knew it was progress, slow as it was. Finally, after a few more laps... yes- there it was again! That inner ear was casually starting to flick towards him. He remained still, both the lead rope and the dressage whip down at his side. And then, by an infinitesimal amount, Fifi's pace became more even, and her head dropped lower to the ground. She began chewing at the air, her inner ear consistently focused on him. Chris smiled appreciatively. Once she'd done three laps at an even trot, he stepped towards her, standing as tall as he could, using assertive body language. The yearling paused for a moment, before changing direction, that inner ear still turned towards him as he returned to the center of the ring. "Good girl," Chris murmured. Then, a voice rang out from the side of the arena. Fifi shied away, her concentration lost. Chris sighed, and glanced over at the girl who'd apparently been watching his training session. She told him to lower his whip, which was strange, seeing as his dressage whip was about as low as it could be... Maybe from her angle it looked different. He nodded at her, acknowledging her comment. When she commented on the way Fifi moved, Chris gave her a genuine smile. It took someone with a lot of equine knowledge to pick out an exceptional mover. "Thanks," he said in his lilting southern drawl, "Her name is Fifi, short for Wildfire." The it clearly suits her was obviously implied. He made his way over to the yearling in question, murmuring soothing words all the while. When she stood quietly, he clipped the lead onto her halter, and led her over to the ride of the ring where the girl was watching them. "So, do you make a habit of spying on people and their hoses?" Chris asked lightly, fixing his green eyes on hers. He held out his hand for her to shake, acutely aware of how dirty it was. Ah well, such was the life of an equestrian. "I'm Chris Rossi, one of the instructors here at the main barn. And you are? Besides a super spy, I mean." He smiled, as Fifi nudged his side, foraging for treats. He pushed the mare's nose away gently and awaited the girl's reply. Woah, Mona Lisa, I'd pay to see you frown He senses something, call it desperation Another dollar, another day And if she had the proper words to say, ( She would tell him But she'd have nothing left to sell him --------------- ! ) Jade laughed at his remark, feeling that she undoubtedly ruined his peace. "It's just what I'm best at, spying on people on their horses. Been doing it my whole life." She shrugged and a smirk played itself on her lips. He introduced himself as Chris Rossi, a trainer that she had been hearing about since she arrived here. She took his hand with grace, shaking it lightly. He had the rough and tough hands of a true man, something that Jade admired. "I'm Jade Donnell, world famous in my hometown, and I'm the new girl who just brought in the big bay Warmblood named Zeus."
Jade spoke of Zeus like he was a God, which technically he was, and to Jade, her gelding was the best thing that could have ever happened to her. She loved that boy more than anything she had ever loved before, and Zeus would always be her top man no matter what. She had the undying desire to put him before anything else, and she didn't look down on it at all. A true equestrian will put their horse before anything, and that's just how it was. She looked at the mare nudging Chris' hand for treats and she smiled. She reached in her back pocket and pulled out some peppermint treats. Jade paused and shoved them back in her pocket, not sure if Chris would be okay with Jade giving his mare treats. "Would you mind if I gave Fifi some peppermint treats? My gelding loves them, he goes absolutely insane when he sees me coming with them." Jade gave a little laugh and flipped her hair behind her shoulder.

CHRISTOPHER THOMAS ROSSI 26 | Main Barn Instructor | Straight | Single A LOOK FROM YOU AND I WOULD FALL FROM GRACE He replied, shaking his head and smiling. Technically, he made his living off of watching horses and their riders, but said riders also paid him to watch and critique them. He wondered if he'd be seeing this spitfire of a girl in any of his upcoming lessons. In the back of his mind, he hoped he would. As she introduced herself, Chris nodded. "Pleasure to meet you, Jane, maybe you'll become famous here too," He smiled genuinely, "Yeah, I saw what must have been your gelding when I was checking on my Warmblood Taffy before. He's a handsome horse, do you guys compete?" There was a show coming up soon that he'd entered with Taffy, and he was more than certain he'd see Jade and her Zeus in at least some of the classes. The gelding looked fit and capable, and with his clearly knowledgeable owner, Chris was sure they'd be a tough pair to beat. During their brief conversation, Fifi had grown restless. She shifted her weight from leg to leg, tossing her lead and jerking the leadrope. Chris placed a soothing hand on the young mare's shoulders, stroking her fiery coat in an effort to calm her. Surprisingly, it seemed to work. She lowered her head, letting Chris scratch her poll, and watching him with curious blue eyes. But, when she heard the crinkle of plastic coming from Jade's back pocket, the mare thrust her nose towards the girl, sniffing eagerly. When she asked his permission to give some of her treats to his horse, Chris' respect for her grew exponentially. "Sure, feel free," He answered, "Just be careful though, she's known to nibble fingers if they get in the way." He laughed as she gobbled down the treats and pulled against the lead rope again, straining to get closer to Jade. Woah, Mona Lisa, I'd pay to see you frown He senses something, call it desperation Another dollar, another day And if she had the proper words to say, ( She would tell him But she'd have nothing left to sell him --------------- ! ) She looked up at him with dazzling eyes, falling in love with the green color in his eyes. Jade had always loved the ecstatic and obnoxious eyes, the kind of eyes that made people look two or three times before finally being able to pull themselves away from the beauty. "Of course I make a living off of it, what kind of horse woman would I be if I didn't spy on people and their horses? You'd be surprised on how much I learn from just sitting there, listening and watching." The famous statement caught Jade off guard and she laughed, very loudly and very abruptly, knowing that it would take a LOT to become well known around these parts. "Yes, we do compete. He's my show jumper, my eventer, my everything. He's my big baby." She smiled again, thinking of her horse and how handsome and flashy he looked under saddle.
Jade nodded as Chris gave her permission to give Fifi the peppermint treats. She grabbed three or four and put them in the palm of her hand, offering them to Fifi. The feel of her soft muzzle and the hungry lips was an all too familiar feeling to Jade, but she loved the feeling more and more every time. It was the kind of connection that every horse and rider should have. As Fifi threw her head at Jade, Jade gently pushed her muzzle away letting her know that treat time was over. She backed up a step and looked at Fifi, loving every bit of the mare's eagerness.
She looked back up at Chris, and realized that she still wasn't over how handsome he was. "So exactly what kind of a trainer are you? Like are you a general trainer, or a specific trainer in a specific discipline?" These types of things were always good to know, especially if Chris trained in a discipline that Jade and Zeus could use a few pointers on. Jade found no shame in needing critique and training from her fellow equestrians.

CHRISTOPHER THOMAS ROSSI 26 | Main Barn Instructor | Straight | Single A LOOK FROM YOU AND I WOULD FALL FROM GRACE Chris agreed, "I've learned more than half of what I know from watching other people train and ride. It seems like you can never learn enough, know what I mean?" His southern accent was even more prominent now that he was excited about the topic he was talking to her about. Oh well, at least he wasn't stuttering. Chris lived in fear of humiliating himself by way of his accursed stutter. As Jade spoke about her horse, Chris couldn't help but warm up to her even more. He knew exactly what she was talking about, because Fifi and Taffy were basically his children. "Will I see you guys in the upcoming event then? I'm entered in a few classes with Taffy, and then I'm bringing Fifi to the training class just for the experience." Fifi nuzzled Jade's hand, looking for more of the peppermint treats. She flicked her roaned ears back in annoyance when the girl gently pushed her nose away, and Chris tugged on the lead to remind her to mind her manners. He shrugged apologetically at Jade, as if to say what can you do? Fifi would learn her ground manners eventually, or so he hoped. The young mare began to fidget again, realizing treat had concluded. Once again, Chris put a big hand on her delicate shoulder, willing her to stand still. Unfortunately, he wasn't as lucky the second time he tried to use the calming technique. But he was soon distracted when Jade's eyes met his gaze again. That look, what did it mean? Happy to have something to save him from further embarrassment, Chris answered her question. "Well, technically I teach in english in general, but I do train people for competitions in dressage, cross country, and show jumping. Occasionally hunters, but I haven't done it in a while. You're welcome to a lesson if you'd like. I do one hour groups of 3 or more, or half an hour or hourlong privates," He paused for a moment as he tried to remember his schedule. "I think I have an opening for a half hour private on Thursday at 5, if you'd like." Chris felt the heat of a blush creep up his neck as he realized how... intimate that sounded. "I also have a few groups that need some more higher level people,' He added hastily. Chris was a tad annoyed with himself. He'd been doing so well with her, and now he'd most likely ruined it. Woah, Mona Lisa, I'd pay to see you frown He senses something, call it desperation Another dollar, another day And if she had the proper words to say, ( She would tell him But she'd have nothing left to sell him --------------- ! ) Jade darted her eyes sideways as she watched Chris drop his head, she felt embarrassed; mostly for the fact that she had made him feel uncomfortable and then partly for the fact that she was being so odd about him. She knew that she would quickly recover from the awkward moment, so she didn't spend much time looking at the cone in the distance of the indoor arena. "Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I think when it comes to the equestrian world, you learn more and more all the time, it's like a never ending lesson." She smiled and sighed a little sigh of relief, awkwardness avoided.
He questioned about the upcoming show and Jade remembered that she still had to work on Zeus with all the events. She nodded with enthusiasm, a huge smile on her face. "Yeah we'll be there for sure. I entered him in show jumping, hunter, and eventing. I consider them his "good" disciplines." She put her fingers up in the two position bending them when she said good. "Hopefully, I'll see you there!" She smiled again and shifted her weight to the other foot.
She watched as his mare started to become impatient again, fidgeting back and forth. She was the typical young horse, always wanted to be doing something and when they weren't, they decided to get naughty and become a handful, but then again that was only the majority of them. There were the exceptional ones who were just flat out lazy and were never in the mood to do anything. Those horses were your trail horses when they grew up, unless you forced them to be otherwise. Jade's eyes lit up as he mentioned that he trained show jumping. She had been jumping since she was little, but she knew that there was always room for improvement and if Chris was giving her the critique she was perfectly okay with that. She thought about her schedule and a beaming smile smacked itself on her face when she realized she was free that day. "I'm open on Thursday, I'd love to take that lesson up with you." Jade blushed and looked away, realizing how eager her voice sounded. "And of course I wouldn't mind the group lesson either, Zeus could always use group lessons." She gave a satisfied smile, and grabbed her hair in her hand swiftly putting it back in a loose ponytail.

CHRISTOPHER THOMAS ROSSI 26 | Main Barn Instructor | Straight | Single A LOOK FROM YOU AND I WOULD FALL FROM GRACE He joked, trying to ease the tension from before even more. "More so for my students then me though." He wasn't sure why he'd said that. Weren't you trying to get her to take a lesson with you? He scolded himself mentally. Why don't you just tell her how torturous your lessons are and be done with it? She definitely won't want to now. Why do you even try? But, her whole face lit up when she talked about entering her horse Zeus in the upcoming competition, so he figured he hadn't scared her off just yet. He chuckled at her air quotations, and replied "You'll definitely see me there, I think we'll be competing against each other, at least in a few classes." He withdrew his hand from his pocket and held it out to her, a mock solemn expression on his rugged face. "May the best... equestrian win."At his suggestion to a lesson, another effervescent smile spread across her pretty face. He ran his fingers through his hair, unable to hide his bashful return smile. Her good mood was contagious, and he was thankful for it. She bounced back from the awkwardness he'd caused effortlessly. He could have used more people like that in his life. "Well, whichever you'd like to do. The group that needs another member is for an hourlong dressage lesson. But the offer for the private still stands if you're looking for some critique in something else." He figured leaving it up to her was the safest option, so he left it at that. Surprisingly, Fifi had been quiet for that portion of their conversation. It was almost like she was listening to them, waiting for Chris to make an ass out of himself. It sounded like something the yearling would do, if she were a person. He patted the mare's neck as a reward for standing so quietly before turning back to Jade. "So how long have you had Zeus?" From his experience, the best way to get an equestrian to open up was to ask about their horse. Woah, Mona Lisa, I'd pay to see you frown He senses something, call it desperation Another dollar, another day And if she had the proper words to say, ( She would tell him But she'd have nothing left to sell him --------------- ! )
The awkwardness hanging in the air kept Jade on her toes, but she made sure to not make it apparent to Chris. She was generally good at avoiding awkward situations, and when she couldn't avoid it, she was very good at getting out of it. Her personality seemed to just overcome awkward situations with ease, never slowing Jade down one bit. Chris seemed like a naturally awkward person, but Jade was sure she could get him to not be on that level - that is, if they ever got that close to being that friendly with each other. She laughed as he mentioned his students, such a typical trainer. "Hey, some students might actually enjoy being on a horse for that long." She gave a sarcastic smirk and a wink. "Me, on the other hand, would like to get my ass out of a saddle for at least 10 minutes, but I'm always in the saddle." She shrugged and looked down. "Guess I just can't help myself, I've been glued to a saddle since I was a little girl." She gave Chris a beaming smile, her eyes sparkling with fascination. He was so easy to talk to, so easy to get along with, yet so contradicting all at the same time. It was quite the bundle.
Jade thought towards the competition hoping that Zeus and her would do okay. He hadn't been in a show in weeks to months, so she wasn't sure how he would handle the show circuit, but she was sure that he would get used to competing all the time again. "Ah, may the best? More like the best will win." She forced a smile, a little embarrassed at her outspoken attitude. Always speaking before thinking.
He mentioned the dressage lesson and Jade made a disgusted face. She knew that Chris had probably noticed, so she instantly explained herself. "I'm sorry, it's not that I don't actually adore dressage, because I do! It's just that Zeus is not the greatest at dressage, he is so against it I can't even explain how much he dislikes the discipline." She chuckled, knowing she sounded like a buffoon speaking for her horse. "But I would adore you even more if you would do a private lesson with me in jumping. I need some major ass-kicking and some great critiquing." She smiled and stared into Chris' eyes, not being able to tear herself away from the gorgeous man.
He asked about Zeus and Jade looked away, after forcing herself to. "Zeus is a very complicated story... I've had him for a very long time, and we have a bond that is indescribable. That's a story that you would definitely need a lot more time for; because it is a loooong story." She sighed and thought of the story behind how Zeus became hers. It wasn't a happy, lucky story. It was more of a sad and a bit of a depressing story, but it had a happy ending, and that's all that Jade truly cared about.

CHRISTOPHER THOMAS ROSSI 26 | Main Barn Instructor | Straight | Single A LOOK FROM YOU AND I WOULD FALL FROM GRACE He laughed, nodding in agreement. He'd lived most of his life astride a horse too. "I haven't been in the saddle as much as I'd like to be, thanks to this beast," He gestured affectionately to Fifi, who was now trying to bite her leadrope. "My other mare Taffy is a dream to ride, but I just don't have as much time between training my students and training Fifi." He sighed wistfully. "I was actually thinking about leasing her out, since she deserves more than I can give her right now," He confided to Jade. But that was neither here nor there. He looked at her again, feeling much more relaxed. Her infectious smiles were enough to make his stomach feel fluttery, but he tried to ignore it, lest he make himself look like a bigger idiot than he had already. It was almost ridiculous how helpless an attractive woman could make him feel. He chuckled at her ferocious enthusiasm. "I'm sure the best will win," He teased her gently, eyes twinkling. Chris raised his eyebrows curiously at her visceral reaction to the word dressage. He didn't have to ask what that was all about, since she just plunged into an explanation. He listened carefully, nodding along to show that he was following her. When she took a breath to laugh to herself, Chris interjected quickly- "Personally, I hate dressage. I'm not terrible at it, but I hate doing it. Frankly, it bores me. But don't tell my students, they think I live for it." He rolled his eyes to further prove his point. He pushed Fifi's ever present nose away from his pocket gently. She really was becoming pretty greedy. "Sure, if you want to take Zeus out with Taffy and I to the outdoor on Thursday, we could critique each other. Us trainers need some ass kickings too, and I think there's a decently challenging course set up right now from the show, but if not we can always make our own." For the entirety of their conversation, Jade had been bubbly and upbeat, but when Chris asked about her horse, the blonde had grown quiet. Furrowing his brow, Chris wondered if perhaps he'd crossed some sort of boundary. "Well, if you'd ever like to share it with me, I'd be happy to listen," He told her seriously. Although he wouldn't press her for answers, he was extremely curious to know the long tale that brought Jade and her Zeus together. Woah, Mona Lisa, I'd pay to see you frown He senses something, call it desperation Another dollar, another day And if she had the proper words to say, ( She would tell him But she'd have nothing left to sell him --------------- ! )
Jade watched as Fifi nudged Chris' hand again, scavenging for yet more treats. It still amazed her how bossy and demanding horses could be, no matter how many times you scold them for it. They were so hard headed and defiant, no wonder there was the minority of the bucking broncos in the world. She shuddered at the thought. The art of "bucking broncos" was a very foreign and undesirable "sport" to Jade. She couldn't understand the joy people got out of breaking every bone in their body and being bucked off an untamed horse, ugh, and those poor horses. Those beautiful and helpless creatures that knew nothing more than to hate the human kind. Jade bubbled with tiny fury inside, knowing that those cowboys would never learn the true meaning of a cowboy. She frowned as she noticed Chris' liveliness drop as he spoke of his mare, Taffy. Jade couldn't tell leasing her wasn't exactly his first option, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. A light bulb went off in Jade's head, a smile forming on her face almost immediately. "You know, as much time as I have, I could give your mare some workouts a couple times a week." Her face lit up with excitement. "Not to mention, Zeus could always use a horse friend. Having me around must get tiring to him." She smiled, hoping that Chris would take her up on the offer, or consider it at the very least.
Jade couldn't help but chuckle when Chris admitted to his distaste toward dressage. She guessed that perhaps it wasn't for every English rider. "Don't worry, your secrets safe with me." She added a confirming week at the end of her promise, knowing that even if Chris thought she was just joking or being sarcastic, that Jade would keep to the promise. It was a small and tiny spark to the beginning of this friendship, and Jade didn't plan on ruining any part of her first friend here since she arrived.
As Chris mentioned them critiquing each other, Jade bobbed her head up and down excitedly. "Yes, I would love that! Don't mind Zeus if he's a little rusty though, he hasn't jumped in a while. He might throw me off one or two times." She shrugged, acting as if it was no big deal. Zeus had thrown her more times than she could count on all fingers and toes. She sustained a lot of injuries just from riding him alone, but it never got her away from the equestrian world. It was her passion, and the only lifestyle she knew - there was no way she'd ever abandon it.
The sudden question of Zeus had definitely hit a nerve, and Jade knew that she had expressed her disgust in the conversation greatly. Chris was such a sweet guy, he seemed to know exactly how to get around the sore subject. "I would love to share with you. It's just not exactly the most positive and exciting story you'll ever hear in your life. In fact, my guess is that it's more depressing how he came to me; but you'll learn of this soon..." She paused, taking in a deep breath knowing that what she was about to do could be shot down immediately or accepted with gratefulness. "Perhaps over lunch, tomorrow?" She forced a cheeky smile, hoping that he didn't realize how fast her heart was beating. She could barely hear over the flowing blood in her head.

CHRISTOPHER THOMAS ROSSI 26 | Main Barn Instructor | Straight | Single A LOOK FROM YOU AND I WOULD FALL FROM GRACE he thought, rolling his eyes at the yearling. At least she hasn't bitten anyone. He really did need to focus on ground manners with her. Now that would be an interesting lesson to watch... If only he'd be the one watching. But, such was the life of a young horse owner. He smiled at her suggestion, but wasn't 100% sure. He'd yet to see her ride, and although Taffy was a sweetheart, she needed an extremely soft seat and quiet hands. "As much as I appreciate it, I'd never want to take you away from working with Zeus," He told her sincerely, "I was actually thinking of trading free lessons with one of the new horse trainers. I posted something about it on Foxtail's IM board earlier, maybe one of them replied..." He switched the lead rope to his left hand, digging in his jeans pocket with his right. He pulled out his iPhone 4, with it's black Metallica case, and scrolled through the IM board. Someone had replied indeed, and he was a bit surprised as to who it had been. "Oh, wow." He said under his breath, more to himself than Jade. "Leah Foster wants to work with Taffy," He said in disbelief, holding out his phone to show her. "Have you met her?" He'd taught a few lessons with the younger girl, and she was an extremely talented rider. However, from what he'd gathered she didn't really seem like the "working" type. Once again, he was totally baffled by a woman. Once he'd slipped his iPhone safely back into his pocket, he turned back to Jade, laughing with her about his borderline hatred of dressage. "Thanks, I owe ya one," He drawled. He was happy she'd taken him up on the offer to critique each other. It wasn't often that he was the one receiving the lesson, rather than teaching it. "Great, how's around 3 on Thursday?" It'd be nice to give Taffy a solid workout with company. He was also interested to see Jade and Zeus in action. Her comment about him throwing her off was a tiny bit unsettling, but he knew it was part of being an equestrian. He'd had his fair number of injuries from riding as well, including a broken rib and a concussion. But still, he came back to the sport, ready and willing for more. Chris nodded, showing he was listening intently to her as she spoke about Zeus. She trailed off, as if deciding whether or not she should add something. Chris surveyed her face curiously. When she asked him to lunch, he smiled warmly. "Sure, I think I can manage to slip away for an hour or so," It'd be nice to chat with her over a cheeseburger, and without the insistent Fifi at his side.
