Kate walked down the gravel pathways down to the main barn. There was a truck and trailer already at the entrance of the barn. She wondered if it was her father's truck. She walked down to get closer. A man stepped out and Kate knew who this was. She rushed over to hug him. "Thanks for coming and bringing Ratio over, Dad." She said to him as she followed him to the trailer.
She heard a whinny as her father opened the two metal door. In the trailer was a beautiful white Arabian mare. She walked up to the mare and grabbed the lead rope dangling from her halter. She petted her muzzle and kissed her forehead. "How was the trip over here, Ratio?" She whispered to the mare as she lead her off the trailer.
The mare shook her main wildly and started to stretch her legs. She lead the mare into the indoor arena and trotted around the outside of the ring to warm Ratio up from being stuck in a cramped trailer.
After a few minutes around the arena Kate lead Ratio into the main barn to find her stall. She unlatched the gate and lead her in. She walked back out and closed the stall door behind her. She unclipped the lead rope and went to get Ratio some feed when she heard footsteps that happened to walk by.Outfit: Click

Emma led her black silver dappled mare Lady Masquerade Soleil, affectionately called Masq, down the hallway of the large barn, humming quietly to herself. Masq's elegant ears pricked, swiveling towards the noise coming from the indoor arena, but Emma gently tugged the lavender lead rope to move the mare on. She'd brought her horse in from the pasture because the heat was getting unbeatable, and her Masq didn't do well when it got over about 85 degrees. After she deposited the pretty mare in her stall, Emma stayed in with her and watched her munch contentedly for a few minutes. She had forgotten treats she realized, as Masq glanced at her expectedly. "Sorry baby, not today. I promise I'll grab something for you tomorrow. Maybe we'll break in the new trails too," she told her, knowing full well the horse couldn't understand a word she was saying. "You be good now, y'hear?" Emma double checked the latch of the stall door after she'd slipped out into the walkway. She was about to leave when she noticed a pretty blonde girl leading a gorgeous grey arabian into a stall a few doors down from Masq's. Curious, Emma walked over, twisting a strand of red hair around her pale finger. She looked into the stall, admiring the graceful arabian's confirmation. "She's lovely, is she yours?" Emma asked the blonde girl amiably. She stuck out her hand to shake. "I'm Emma Michaels, by the way. I'm the new yearling barn manager. Are you a boarder?" The redhead smiled genially. She loved to meet new people, and loved meeting their horses even more.

Kate saw the girl, Emma, walk over to admire her horse Ratio. "Thanks and yes. She is mine, this is Ratio." She responded to the girl's question and comment. She smiled and shook her hanf kindly as she introducd herself. "Nice to meet you, Emma. I'm Katherine Hazeltine, but I prefer you call me Kate." She commented as she continued on. "I'm actually both, I'm a stable hand here in the main barn.." She said with another warm grin. Ratio nickered at the red head as the girl admired the mare. The Arabian nudged Emma's shoulder and nickered in greeting. Kate laughed slightly and patted Ratio's neck. "Be nice.." She said to the mare. She then turned to Emma. "Ratio just loves meeting people. You can pet her if you want. I don't mind. Besides, Ratio loves getting pet. " She said with a slight laugh. Ratio poked her head out of the stall so Emma can pet her.

Emma smiled as the girl, Kate, took her hand and introduced herself and her horse. "She's gorgeous, is Ratio short for anything, or do you just like math?" Emma chuckled at her own joke, hoping the other girl had a weird sense of humor like her. When she learned Kate's job, Emma's hazel eyes widened mischievously. "No kidding, have you seen that instructor Chris? The tall tan one? I think he works in the main barn." She winked, "It's a pity I don't too... But oh well, I'm sure there'll be others." Kate looked a bit younger than her, but Emma didn't mind. She was a people person, plain and simple. At the owner's invitation, Emma reached out to pat the arabian mare's neck as she nickered. She had a feeling she was really going to enjoy working and living here at Foxtail. Everyone she'd met thus far had been friendly, and the horses were all gorgeous. She briefly wondered if she'd be up against this pair at the upcoming event, but didn't worry too much. She and Masq were proven winners, and she was sure they could handle anything that was thrown their way. However, she did notice that Kate and her Ratio seemed to have some great chemistry together, so who knew... "My girl is down the hall a bit," she told Kate, unable to keep the pride from her voice, "She's the black silver dapple with the light mane and tail. I call her Masq, but her show name is Lady Masquerade Soleil. She's my pride and joy." Emma realized she may have been chattering a bit too much, so she turned back to Kate, awaiting her answers to the many questions she'd been posed.

Kate chuckled along with Emma at the joke about Ratio's name. Yet she wasn't offended at all. She just smiled and responded. "Well I just like the name, because her show name is 'Horatio'. So.." She just shrugged and gave another grin. Kate saw Emma's eye widen when she told about her job here as a stable hand. She gave a bit of a quizzical look. When she metions the word 'tall'. It made her think back of the meeting with Miss. Haden. 'Oh! So that's who he is..' She thought as her quizzical look faded away remembering the man from the meeting. "Yeah, I know him> he went to the meeting with Miss. Haden..." She responded to her comment about Chris before she went into a different topic. "I would love to meet Masq.." She responded when she talked about her silver dapple horse. She loved that color of coat. She gave another one of her kind smiles

As a smile broke across Kate's face, and her laughter followed, Emma felt immediately at ease. She was glad her joke hadn't offended the younger girl, as that hadn't been her intention at all. "Horatio, that's pretty," Emma said, "How old is she?" The mare looked to be in good condition, with a beautifully sculpted face and large liquid eyes, both of which were the typical arabian's claim to fame. She was truly beautiful, and it was becoming more and more apparent to Emma that she and Masq would be given a run for their money in the upcoming show. She shrugged the thought aside with a cheerful smile. She watched Kate's face change from quizzical, to remembering the infamous Mr. Rossi. "Oh yeah, I couldn't make it to the staff meeting. I hope Riley wasn't too angry... I had some trouble with settling Masq in. She's not good with new places, but I think she's alright now." Emma brightened up as Kate expressed her interest in meeting Masq. The red head gave Ratio one final gentle pat on the neck before turning around to the direction Masq's stall was in. "Here, I'll show you her, she's just a few doors down." Emma walked quickly down the aisle, and slid the door to her horse's stall open, safely securing the stall net to the clip and effectively keeping Masq in. The mare poked her head over the netting to get a closer look at her visitors, nickering softly at her owner. "I still don't have any treats for you, darlin'," Emma told Masq, gently scratching the spot between the mare's ears.

Kate smiled at Emma, so far Foxtail Creek has been a very welcoming community. When she asked about Ratio's age, with a comment about the Arabian's name, she responded. "Thanks. She's 5 years old... Not too old of a mare.." She said while petted Ratio's nose. She gave her full attention to Emma as she talked about her not making the staff meeting and how she hopes Riley isn't angry. "Well I came after Chris, and this other staff named Stella. Yet when I walked in Riley didn't seem mad or anything. I think you're fine.." She said with another grin. Kate walked down with Emma towards her horse Masq. She was more beautiful in person. Kate outstretched her arm and petted Masq's neck gently. "Wow, Masq is more beautiful in person.." She commented to Emma. "What disciplines do you ride on her?" Kate asked as she continued to pet Masq.

"Wow, no kidding, she's pretty young..." The yearling barn manager said casually, glancing again at the grey mare. "I've always loved arabians, they're so graceful." She wondered if the pair that stood before her had competed much. Kate was young, and so was her horse, but that didn't mean the pair was inexperienced. Regardless, Emma loved healthy competition. She and Masq were always looking for a challenge, and if her instincts were correct (and they usually were) this pair would give her a run for her money. And if they didn't... hey, Emma never said no to any easy win. Or any win, really. She felt immensely relieved when Kate told her that Riley hadn't seemed angry. That was one weight off her shoulders anyway. "Phew. Well, thanks for letting me know. Chris was supposed to, but he never dropped by. Such a shame," Emma winked again. She'd get him next time. Glowing with pride as Kate complimented Masq, Emma brushed a fly away from the mare's ears. "Thank you, she's basically my child," she laughed quietly, "But I feel like that's part of being a horse owner." Most equestrians she knew felt the same way about their hoses, and Emma was sure Kate was no different with Ratio. "Mostly dressage, but we dabble in everything we can," she answered. "We'll be in the cross country event that's coming up soon, will you and Ratio be competing as well?"

Kate nodded in agreement and added a smile at Emma's comment about Arabians. By the looks of Emma and Masq, they look like they compete. She just wondered what event they competed. Cross Country maybe? Kate signed up for Cross Country, and she didn't like competing against friends. Yet she knows since they seem to be great friends, maybe no hard feelings? "No problem.." She replied with a grin when Emma commented about letting her know. She continued to pet Masq as Emma told her about Masq. She nodded when she said about Maq being her child, and how it's part of being a horse owner. "Oh you do dressage? Ratio and I mostly do dressage as well. We dabble in everything we can too." She commented with a shock look. "We're competing in cross country as well.." She answered as she stopped patting Masq for a second. "May the best girl win.." She commented with a wink.

Masq snorted quietly, leaning into the other girl's pats gratefully. "You'd think I never pet her with the way she's acting with you," Emma joked to Kate, "She's probably mad at me that I forgot her treats in my cottage today." The mare snorted in what Emma could only reason was agreement. She chuckled and patted the mare's dark neck. She was really looking forward to the competition, although she and Masq were a tad out of practice, she was sure they'd do alright. They always managed somehow. "Yep, dressage is probably our best event, but I'm a bit biased," Emma laughed again. 'Yes, may the best pair of ladies win. I'll see you there, then?"
