Blinking the sleep from her eyes, Jaz led her palomino mare, Sin City down the road towards pastures. She had yet to meet any of the barn staff, and was always wary about letting anyone handle Sin without her approval. The mare was small, but she had tons of tricks up her sleeves. Jaz couldn't even begin to count all the times her feisty mare had gotten lose, or snuck a nip in when she wasn't paying close enough attention. The day had just began, with the first rosy pink rays of light settling over Foxtail. Jaz was not accustomed to getting up so early, but her new roommate, the yearling barn manager always woke up before the crack of dawn to tend to her charges. And so Jaz was woken up too. Normally, Jaz would have been annoyed, but she liked Emma Michaels, and the woman brewed the best coffee she'd ever had. So, when Emma's alarm had gone off in the morning, blasting whatever pop music station, Jaz had risen from sleep and started her day as well. She'd peeked into the broodmare's stalls, checking on the two new mothers and their foals first. Once she was satisfied that they were all fine, she checked on the other two broodmares, who seemed peaceful as well. Then, she'd made her way over to the main barn to see Sin. The palomino had been trying to escape her stall, Jaz could tell. But thankfully, she'd warned one of the trainers, and he'd helped her install a second latch on the stall door. Even though those precautions were taken, Jaz was relieved to see the mare safely inside her stall nonetheless. She'd slipped the leather halter on the palomino's head, and off they'd went. Even though the sun had yet to rise above the tree line, the day was already beginning to warm up. Jaz already felt hot in her jeans and tall boots, and fervently wished she'd worn her ankle boots instead. At least she hadn't worn the all black tee shirt she had grabbed in the darkness that morning. That would have been murder. When they got to the empty show horse pasture, Jaz led the mare inside, deftly unclipping the lead rope, and shooing Sin away from the gate. The Paso Fino gave a defeated snort before trotting off to nibble at the tender blades of grass on the far side of the field. Jaz checked that the water trough was full, adding just a little bit more since she could already tell the day was going to be hot. Slinging the lead rope over her shoulder, she closed the gate behind her and began to watch her horse. It was so peaceful like this, before the world woke up. if only it would stay like that.

It was early in the morning, just as the sun became to come up on the horizon. He didn’t particularly enjoy getting up early, but it was something that had to be done. He had responsibilities to himself and to his horses, ones that he couldn’t just abandon. He started this day with a short work out, doing 5o benches and running a mile, bringing himself to a little sweat before he began to attend to his horses.
Walking into the main barn, he stopped at a particular stall, opening the door and greeting his old grey Thoroughbred mare, Nanny. Halter in hand, he slipped it over her head gently, and then fastening it. He clipped the lead-rope onto the bottom hook, leading her out from the barn to the paddocks. Old now, she had worked exceptionally hard during her racing career, for which now she deserved retirement. She was enjoying the easy life; the life of going out in the morning to graze, then come back in to the barn to be fed and pampered, only occasionally being ridden for the rare trail ride. Nanny was without a doubt though, John’s favorite mare.
As they began to reach the green fields, John watched from afar a young red-headed female turn out her own palomino mare. He hoped the other mare wouldn’t cause his own any trouble, but he was sure that she wouldn’t, shaking off the thought. By the time he reached the gate, the lady was still standing there watching her mare. John excused himself, slipping through the gate, leading Nanny into the paddock. Leading her off a little ways, he patted the old grey mares neck, praising her as he undid her halter, letting the mare go free. He started back toward the gate, glancing sporadically back to the mare, checking on her. She immediately had lowered her head to the ground, enjoying the grass, moving forward slowly in advance down the field. He laughed, knowing she would be no trouble for the other palomino mare and keeping to herself. As he came back through the gate, he closed it, propping his leg up on the bar, watching Nanny from a distance. Turning to the woman beside him, he smiled.
“Goodmorning. My name is John.”
He said, pausing as he ran a hand through his dark hair.
“Your palomino wouldn’t happen to bother my little grey mare, would she? You‘ll have to excuse Nanny, she‘s elderly.”
He said, smirk spread over his face as a small laugh escaped him.
ooc; no coding or anything for him, will have some soon though.

Sin noticed the boy and his mare before she did. The palomino lifted her elegant head from the grass she'd been so preoccupied with, her golden ears pricked in interest at the approaching duo. Jaz turned to spot the two, meandering closer. She hoped that he wasn't thinking about turning his grey mare out with Sin... The palomino could be such a bully sometimes. Jaz watched her horse intently, studying even the tiniest of her reactions. Sin had a nasty habit of playing it cool until everyone thought she was friendly, then she'd strike at the most opportune moment. She whistled softly to get the horse's attention. Her mare gaze backed at her innocently, as if to say "who, me?" Jaz sighed inwardly. "Yes, you." She said to the Paso Fino, but the gentle morning wind stole her words. Sin was a brat at best, but the boy had no way of knowing that. As they drew closer, Jaz began walking towards the gate, hoping to warn him before he let his grey horse into the field. Sin had strategically been making way closer, very very slowly as if not to arise suspicion. Jasmine knew her too well to fall for it. She'd had to employ her veterinary skills on many a horse who had trifled with her own mare. Their crime? Existing in Sin's space. She opened her mouth to warn him as he passed by, but the boy excused himself and breezed past her. Jaz toyed anxiously with the rubber Star Wars bracelet on her wrist, a nervous frown creasing her brow. Sin eyed the pair as they entered the field, but made no move to go closer. Jaz breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe she'd behave after all... The palomino stood stock still, head held high, nostrils flaring. Jaz's gaze drifted back to the boy and his mare. As they'd passed, her vet tech training had picked up the subtle signs of aging in the grey's coat and gait. She grimaced. It was like sticking an old lady in a pool with a shark. Yet her golden shark seemed content with just watching, at least for the time being. The boy rejoined her at the gate, an air of casual nonchalance in his step. She figured he was about her age, give or take. She waved aside his pleasantries, favoring the more important information at hand. "I'm Jasmine, the new broodmare and foaling barn vet tech." She said quickly, "And my palomino is notorious for bothering other horses. I took her out this early because I didn't think any other horses would be out." He was chuckling now, but frankly she didn't see what exactly was so amusing. Jaz looked at the grey, Nanny worriedly. Sin was keeping her distance, but her ears were flicked backwards, and Jaz knew what that meant. If they didn't intervene and quickly, it probably wasn't going to end well.

His blue eyes watched intently on the red-headed woman named Jasmine, listening carefully to her. Curiosity sparked within him at her mention of being the new Broodmare/Foaling barn vet. John had been studying for 5 years at college, pursuing his dreams of following in her footsteps.
“Oh, really? I’m currently going to school to become a vet. But for now I am Harrisbury firefighter extraordinaire.”
He smirked at the unusually attractive woman, looking down at the grass and then back up, meeting her eyes once again.
“Nice to meet you, though.”
He smile softened into a more genuine expression. It quickly dissipated though as she spoke about her palomino mare, John concerned for his old mare.
“Ah, well that’s okay. I’ll just take her to Unicorn Grove then. The old lady would love that.”
His words were spoken jokingly, all behind a serious and very concerned tone. He did not wait to act, immediately pushing through the gate and excusing himself again. Halter and lead in hand, he watched the other mare closely. Straight A-lining for Nanny, he repeated the process of pulling over her halter and clipping the lead too it, then placing himself to the right of the old mare; positioning himself between her and the other mare. He quickly led her out to safety, locking the gate back.
Stopping by Jasmine, he smiled.
“Like I said before, it was nice to meet you,”
He turned to walk away with Nanny in tow, pausing after a few steps before wheeling around to face her again.
“Say… Want to go with me?”
An odd question for John to ask, especially to a newly met stranger, but he had nothing left to do for the day and he didn’t quite feel like spending it alone. She was as good company as any, he figured.
