Genevieve Rose Sampson❄
"Honey!" Gen exclaimed, examining the small bite mark on her arm where her Thoroughbred had just nipped her. Honeyblood was notorious for the second half of her name, definitely not the first. "You brat," Gen scolded, only half serious. She was used to Honey's sour disposition by now, since she'd had the two and a half year old since she was a filly. It was early in the day, and Gen wanted to get a head start on working with the young mare. Honey had given her the usual; bites and threatening half kicks, but Gen had managed to neatly sidestep every one of the chestnut's attacks. All except the last one, she thought, gingerly rubbing her arm. "You always have to have the last word, don't you?" Honey pinned her ears in in irritation as a response. Outside of the gate to the arena, Gen double knotted her sleeveless white tie front blouse, making sure to keep a wary eye on Honey. She placed her water bottle precariously on one of the posts, before slipping into the ring, safely latching the gate behind her and her horse. Honey pranced excitedly next to her ask she walked into the center of the ring. Gen put her left foot in the stirrup and sprang lightly into the saddle, after double checking the girth. Before she could put her right foot into the other stirrup, Honey sprang into a bouncy trot, elegant head thrust high into the air defiantly. Luckily, Gen was prepared for any hi-jinx and sat calmly to the jarring gait until Honey slowed to a more even pace. Finally the mare gave in and slowed to a walk, so Gen gave her her head. They did a few laps around the ring in each direction, taking in the new scenery. The second Gen gathered up the reins, all she had to do was lean her forward and Honey moved into a trot. She was almost scared to know how the mare would respond if she actually gave her leg. Honey was still very young, and fairly green, but Gen loved riding her. Once she settled into her gaits, Honey was the most comfortable horse she'd ever ridden. Her trot was so smooth that sitting to it felt like she wasn't moving at all. Of course, that made posting a little more annoying, but she didn't mind. After the pair had trotted around the ring, again in both directions, Gen slowed her to a walk. She new Honey wanted to run, she was a racehorse after all, but it was getting hot and Gen wanted to give her a lot of breaks since she was so young. When she was working with Honey or her other mare Marzipan, she almost forgot all her troubles. It was so nice to be in the saddle again, without a care in the world. Gen smiled to herself, idly brushing back a strand of pale blonde hair. Even with her sour horse, the day couldn't get any sweeter.

( w i l d , h o r s e s , I , w a n n a , b e , l i k e , y o u )THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND, I'LL RUN FREE TOO The young brunette rider swung lightly up into the saddle of his Appaloosa gelding, Ace. The pair were well suited to each other and had both grown to be close companions. He clucked at the horse and they traveled on to one of the three outdoor arenas. He was hoping one of them would be available, as he heard there was a large group lesson going on as well as set up in the larger arena for the competitions coming up. He and Ace were entered in the reining division and he hoped they would be able to get some well needed practice in. He had already worked him a bit in the indoor arena, but had left to get out of the way of a scheduled lesson there as well. Nearing the fenced in sand lots, Haden pulled in Ace and watched a lone rider in the free arena. Riding a young white mare, the girl's hair peaked out in a matching bloom of color as the duo trotted around the ring. As the pair slowed to a walk, Haden brought Ace up the gate and let himself in. He watched the mare warily as Ace's ears flicked back mildly. Laughing at the gelding, he patted him reasuringly. Aw, calm on down Ace, your a killer with the girls, no need to worry. As a reply, the uniquely patterned appy snorted and eyed Haden moodily. Haden laughed, and sent him off on a walk. He tried to stay as far as possible from the other pair, seeing as the mare was young and hotblooded, with a surefire attitude, but he felt the need to ask the girl's permission to ride in the arena alongside her. He didn't want to be the cause of any concern for them. Stopping Ace, he waited for them to counter pass them before speaking up. You don't mind us using the arena with you two, do you?

& something's gotta change'CAUSE OUR LOVE'S THE SLOWEST MOVING TRAIN• • • • • • • • • • • •Gen felt Honey tense up beneath her, as another horse and rider drew closer to the ring they were in. She could clearly see the horse was an appaloosa, a breed she'd always loved. In fact, the first horse she'd learned to post on had been an appy named Sandman. Gen smiled fondly at the memory, using her leg to move Honey farther away from the gate so they could come in. The young sorrel mare tossed her head and pinned her delicate ears warningly at the appaloosa and his rider, but Gen rolled her large blue eyes and beckoned them in. Since Honey was getting fidgety, Gen leaned forward, signaling her to go forward. Again, she didn't need to use any leg. The mare took off at a trot- more controlled this time. Gen smiled and stoked her chestnut neck, rewarding her for being both responsive and restraint. As they circled the arena- and the other pair of horse and rider, she got a better glimpse of who had joined her and Honey. He was probably about her age, maybe a bit older. Gen smiled tentatively as she passed him and his appaloosa. "Of course not, feel free," She answered in her soft voice, "Just beware of Honey here, she's not exactly what you'd call friendly." As if to prove the point, Honey pinned her ears flat against her skull, training her brown eyes on the boy and his appaloosa. "I'm Genevieve, by the way..." She offered hesitantly. Meeting people wasn't exactly her area of expertise.

( w i l d , h o r s e s , I , w a n n a , b e , l i k e , y o u )THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND, I'LL RUN FREE TOO Genevieve... Haden smiled warmly at the girl. Haden. Haden Parish. Pleasure to meet you. He started to stand up in his stirrups to offer the girl his hand in greeting, but thought better of it and awkwardly sat back down, pulling off his cap and running his hand through his dark brown mop. Ace half-snorted, half-nickered then, apparently amused with the young mare's uncouth behavior. The boy checked the gelding and backed him up, not really worried for his own well being, or that of Ace's. The appy wasn't one to spook or buck, but he sure did like to give his opinion on things, and the last thing Haden wanted to see was his gelding giving the mare a disapproving nip. He could only imagine what the mare would do... rear, or worse, throw Gen. I'll try my best to keep our distance then, wouldn't wan't any trouble. Besides, I think Ace is fixing to put her in her place and I don't think that would turn out well. He laughed nervously, his blue eyes watching the two horses carefully, all the while trying to stare too obviously at the girl. Honey's a funny name for a mare with a sour attitude, a bit misleading, don't you think? In retrospect, he hoped he didn't sound too critical about it. It did seem a bit accusatory... he only meant that he found it ironic. Why he couldn't have just said that, he didn't really know.

& something's gotta change'CAUSE OUR LOVE'S THE SLOWEST MOVING TRAIN• • • • • • • • • • • •Gen smiled back at the boy, who'd just introduced himself as Haden. The blonde girl watched curiously as he stood up in the saddle, held out his hand as if he wanted her to shake it, then retracted it just as quickly, and ran it through his hair. She decided to say nothing of it. Gen had stopped Honey a safe distance away from the other pair, but still, the sorrel swished her tail and flicker her ears back. Stroking the young mare's neck absentmindedly, she watched as Haden backed his horse up away from them, which was a good move on his part. Honey was a hot-blooded Thoroughbred, with a fiery temper. She even had to have a field to herself, since she was so nasty to other horses. For a minute, Gen wondered if the stablehands at the racing barn had been on the receiving end of her mare's frequent hissy fits. When she'd first bought Honey as a filly, everyone told her it was just her age, and that'd grow out of it. Now Honey was two and a half, and meaner than she'd ever been. Hopefully her sour personality wouldn't get worse exponentially as she got older... But, in truth, Gen didn't really mind. The young horse kept her on her toes, and although Gen knew most of her tricks, sometimes Honey would be too quick for her, and she'd end up with yet another bite mark or bruise, like prior that day. Although the mare's disposition was less than desirable, she had tons of talent when it came to racing. In fact, she'd just won her very first race at Foxtail, placing her as number one on the list of rankings at FCS. Gen had entered a training class with her for next time, since racing wasn't an available class, and she hoped to eventually compete the mare in show jumping when Honey was older. "That's probably for the best," Gen agreed amiably. "I think Ace would be in for a rude surprise if he tried..." She laughed too, although she knew she was right. Honey wouldn't take anyone's nonsense lying down. At the thought, she tightened up on her reins, keeping firm contact with Honey's mouth. The mare shook her head unhappily, but stayed still. At Haden's comment about Honey's name, Gen laughed genuinely. "Well, her show name is Honeyblood, but I figured calling her Honey was a little more acceptable than calling her Blood, although the latter may be more accurate," Gen said, shaking her head and gazing at her grumpy horse affectionately.
