Following him swiftly out of the barn, she turned to the pasture on the right, not bothering to untie the gate. They were in an emergency, and sometimes you got to do what you got to do. Climbing up the fence, she swung her legs over the top of it onto the other side an jumped, trying to make such a manly action look somewhat elegant.
She took off running down through the middle of the pasture, calling as calmly as possible to the little colt as if to call him into her. Her blue eyes searched frantically for him, but didn’t see him yet. Worriedly, she glanced around for Harley, finding him almost immediately as she called out to him.
“I hope he doesn’t wander into the stallions barn or pasture’s.”
She then took off again down the center field, following it to the back side but still not spotting him. He wasn’t in this field. Running back up to the fence, she performed the same maneuver as before, looking at Harley scared.
“He’s not in this pasture.”

Harlington Fraser-Buchanan While Essie checked one of the fields, Harley took it upon himself to look through another. Climbing the fence, he quickly scanned the flat area, only seeing an empty expanse of grass. The boy jogged a ways into the field, looking around once more, but with the same result. Swearing under his breath, he to the fence and climbed over it just as Essie crawled over the other. "No such luck in this field." He stopped short when she mentioned the stallion barn. "But that's... it's half way across the property. Do you think he could have made it that far in this short of time?" Harley wouldn't doubt it - foals were fast and exploring was second nature, so it was a good probability that the young colt was somewhere off past the broodmare pastures. "But now I'm worried he's with the stallions, so should we check there first?"

His comment made her even more worried, sending her over the edge.
“I…I.. I think so.”
She said stuttering. She was trembling now with fear for the tiny new life, for which she was responsible for.
“C’mon.”
She said, taking him by the hand fearfully and hoping he would keep up as she took off running down the footpath. It felt like forever of running, as they passed the outdoor arena, the main barn and the indoor arena, and the paddocks for the show horses. She took a right at the turn, following the trail northward until they came to their destination, the stallion paddocks. Coming to a stop, Essie looks down at the hands intertwined, forgetting that she had took his hand. Embarrassed, she let go of it quickly, flushing a bright shade of pink as she met Harley’s eyes.
“I’m…I’m sorry.”
She said, immediately turning away and returning to business as she tried to spot the little colt. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Harlington Fraser-Buchanan Before he could do anything, Essie took his hand and they were off running across Foxtail.
Harley was certainly not the best runner. He could go for short distances, but even then he was slow. Following behind Essie, they hadn't gone very far before he found himself huffing and puffing along, willing himself to keep up so he wouldn't slow her down. Dang she's fast. Only fear for the colt kept him from tripping over his own feet.
He was able to catch his breath once they reached the stallions' barn and pastures. He hadn't even really made the connection that they were holding hands until she apologized for it, but he quickly dismissed it. "S'quite alright. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to keep up." He gave a short, small laugh to lighten the mood. Harley straightened back up and turned his gaze to the pasture, scanning the grassy expanse, his breath catching in his throat. "There he is!" The little colt was just inside the fence, sniffing around. But what worried Harley were the looming stallions not too far off. "How do you propose we catch him without setting off a stampede?"

Even she was a little out of breath though as the reached the stallion barn and paddocks, but she couldn’t help but notice Harley’s blowing as they came to a stop. She laughed nervously, not meaning it in a way to make fun of him but rather in surprise. He appeared quite fit, with nice muscle and build.
He was also understanding. He took the attention of EssieRae’s embarrassment with ease, not even thinking about it. She joined him in the brief laughter, but stopped as he pointed out the foal with a careful eye. Her sharp eyes pinpointed him immediately huddling close to the fence, but still exploring.
“I have an idea. It could be a bit dangerous though. I’ll stand midway in between the stallions and the colt. They’ll have to go through me to get him. You try and catch him and keep him away from the studs while I keep watch, does that sound good?”
She said seriously, hardened eyes meeting his briefly before she started to climb over the studs pit. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Harlington Fraser-Buchanan As much as Harley didn't want Essie to end up in harm's way, she seemed quite adamant about it, already starting to cross the fence before he could even answer. "Aye, sounds good."
He followed her over the fence, being sure to stay about twenty feet away from the colt at first so as to not startle it. Casting a quick glance at Essie, he squatted down and carefully began to pick his way toward the colt. "Ello there, wee lad. Jus' stay there. Aye, that's a good lad." Harley crept closer and closer to the colt, who raised its head and eyed him curiously, small ears turned forward. The young foal took a step back, but didn't seem like he was considering retreating.
Harley looked briefly at Essie and the stallions. They knew the colt was there - their heads were turned and their ears were standing erect on their heads. It's only a matter of time before they come charging at Essie and the colt.
He turned his attention back to the colt, who was sniffing at a pile of manure on the ground. "Jus' hold still... jus' hold still.." He cautiously reached out and grabbed a hold of the colt's halter, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. "Good boy. Now c'mon, let's get out of 'ere." Harley straightened up slightly and quickly led the colt over to the gate, quickly opening it and pulling the colt outside, waiting for Essie to come through before closing it but also being sure that no stallions were going to get out.

Harley had done just perfect, slowly moving toward the foal as to not scare it off, and in his attempt he was successful, easily leading the foal out of the dangerous stallion paddock. Watching Harley, he was waiting for her to get out of the paddock as well, but this as well had to be done very carefully. Slowly she began walking toward the gate, trying her best to appear calm and not the least bit frightened. Occasionally checking over her shoulder to check and make sure they were still in place on the far side of the field.
Halfway through getting toward the gate, checking over her shoulder, what appeared to be the dominant stallion was rearing up, rallying all the other stallions, as he led the charge of galloping horses toward her.
“Damn it!”
She called out, picking up the pace and running as fast as she could to get out. They were close to her, and only continuing to gain ground on her. She was close to the gate, but at this point they were right up behind her. Just getting around the gate, the stallion reared up again, barely clearing his hooves. She continued to run a small distance away, scared for her life and unaware if they were still chasing her or not. She had hoped Harley closed the gate in enough time, before the stallion tried to stomp that, too. Harlington Fraser-Buchanan Harley let out a sigh of relief as Essie began to make her way toward the gate. Their little mission had gone very smooth - a little too smooth, in fact. The colt was standing patiently at his side, watching the girl curiously, but then he began prancing in place a few steps when he saw one of the stallions rear up with a tremendous bellow.
The lead stallion's cry caught Harley's attention. His head snapped around the see the mighty best breaking into a gallop, charging straight for his friend. He knew that she realized what was happening because she broke into a furious sprint, but he couldn't help yelling. "Essie, run!"
Heart pounding furiously behind the rib cage, breath stuck in his throat, hand gripping the bar on the gate so tightly that the knuckles were white. Harley's grey eyes were locked on Essie as she came bolting toward him, herd of stallions in tow. C'mon, c'mon! As soon as she passed through the gate, the boy threw his entire weight against the gate so that it would close, quickly locking it despite the lead stallion being pretty much pressed against the gate.
A panicking colt dragged Harley away from the gate, and after a few minutes, all he could do was laugh at the situation. "Are ye alright, Essie?" He asked, giving the colt a few comforting strokes.

She turned back around to Harley, who had really saved her with his fast thinking when he closed the gate. The stallion still was standing at the gate, snorting furiously. Essie gave the stud a hard look before returning to Harley, who was laughing heavily at the previous situation.
“You think that’s funny, huh?”
She said smiling, laughing in unison with him. Coming closer toward him, she reached out beside her to stroke the troublesome colt, still holding eye contact with Harley, a small smile on her lips.
“I’m fine.”
She whispered, soft eyes tracing his features carefully. His soft, tousled hair, his beautiful grey eyes, his lips. He was a exceptionally handsome man. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Harlington Fraser-Buchanan He tried to bite back the laughter but it just kept pouring out. Teary eyes glanced back at the snorting stallion, who was still pressed up against the gate as if he'd scare off the humans and colt.
"I-I do, yeah." He answered her, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself down. "Probably jus' the adrenaline rush makin' me giddy. I haven't had a good scare like that in ages." The boy felt better when he heard her light laughter ringing out with his. Laughter is contagious, no matter what the situation.
"I'm glad you're alright, though. Really, I am." Harley gave her a warm smile. "That was quite an adventure for this wee guy." The colt paid no attention to them; instead, he was looking around curiously as if deciding on where to go next.

Breaking the gaze from him and turning to look like at the colt, she crouched down to his level, fluffing up his baby hair and then giving him a gentle kiss on the nose, smiling.
“I bet your mother is scared out of her mind.”
She said, giving him a concerned look before straightening back up.
“So, what do we do next?”
She said smiling almost sadly, already knowing the answer. She didn’t particularly want to go back to the stalls to muck, especially after their adventure together, but the job had to be done. She had had a lot of fun with him, and she hoped that fun would continue. It was a great feeling to have such an amazing friend, especially just moving to a small town all alone for the first time. She liked the way it felt though, and she hoped the feeling of it would never quite fade away.

Harlington Fraser-Buchanan As Essie bent down to kiss the foal's nose, it only really solidified Harley's reasoning that she looked as if she naturally belonged in a barn with horses. The little colt eyed her with the same curiosity it had earlier, ears flickering all around at the strange sounds.
The thought of Marzipan pacing her stall anxiously almost made a knot in his stomach. "Aye, I be she's worried sick." He said. Once, Harley had gotten lost at the harbor and his mother had nearly thrown an anxiety fit, so he could only imagine that the same maternal instinct was affecting Marzipan at the moment. As much as Harley would have liked for the colt to continue his little adventures, he had to be returned.
"Sorry, wee lad." He started to walk while leading the colt, turning his head to look back at Essie. "You don't suppose he was exposed to any kind of illness, or anythin'?"

We’ll watch him closely though to make sure he’s alright.”
She answered, following in tow with Harley and the colt back to the broodmare and foaling barn.
As they entered the barn, the loud cries of Marzipan pierced the air harshly, echoing through the vacant barn. Essie immediately walked too the stall the mare was in, placing her hand gently on her nose and rubbing it, trying to calm her before they reunited her with her colt.
“Shh shh there darling, everything’s okay now, he’s right here.”
Opening the door and slowly slipping in, she slipped the halter over the cremello’s head gently, keeping a good grip on her as she prepared for the foals entrance.
“I know Stella said to put the mares with foals at the crossties, but I think it’s a better idea to just board them in a stall that isn’t being used until we clean their’s out. If they mess up the empty stall, then we can clean that one up too.”
She said briefly looking up to meet Harley’s gaze before returning her hard focus on Marzipan. A mother’s love was a strong thing, and it could push some mare’s to the bridge of insanity, one she really didn’t want Marzipan to cross. Harlington Fraser-Buchanan He hoped she was right. The colt had been out on its own for maybe ten minutes before the found him, so there was no telling what he had gotten himself into. He didn't appear excessively dirty or smelly, so he was probably safe. Jus' 'ave to hope he learned his lesson about sneakin' 'round.
Harley kept a sure grip on the anxious foal's halter as they returned to the broodmare's barn. He held the colt still about a stall away from Marzipan's as Essie went in to secure the frantic mare. "That's a good idea," he replied, waiting for a moment before bringing in the little colt. Harley closed the stall door behind him before letting go of the colt, who nickered and pranced over to his mother. A smile came to Harley's face. "N'aw, he's so adorable." He turned his gaze up to Essie. "Job well done, Essie. We make quite the pair."
